The increasing availability of inexpensive, easily operated, small drones has turned drones into a mass phenomenon. As a result, threats from noncooperative small drones are becoming more frequent, diverse and subtle. Manned air traffic is regularly disrupted and endangered, privacy is violated, and smuggling and unauthorised video recording occur. In extreme cases, small drones can even be used to attack people, facilities and critical infrastructure.
While early detection of small aircraft is therefore essential, traditional security technology is not designed to provide adequate protection from this impending danger.
Telespazio Germany’s drone protection system, DIDIT, was developed to cater for these new requirements.
DIDIT stands for Distributed Detection, Identification and Tracking of small drones.
Institutional, as well as commercial clients, benefit from our solution for automated detection, location and tracking of small drones. DIDIT empowers our customers to react to the various challenges of small drones and to prevent undesirable consequences.
Built from the diverse expertise of our engineers serving the defence and space sectors, our drone detection system adheres to the same strict reliability and technical standards as all our mission-critical solutions.
Tailored Solutions
Requirements for drone detection systems may significantly depend on the property to be protected. We design our solutions according to our customers’ needs and the topography of the property using the modular and scalable architecture of DIDIT.
Flexibility and Future Orientation
Noncooperative drones are detected and tracked through passive radio and electro-optical sensors and radar. Whilst radio sensors and cameras are standard in all cases, radar is used only in specific situations. The modular structure of DIDIT allows our customers to continuously adapt to new challenges posed by the ever-evolving drone technologies.
Coordinated Process
We support our customers from the very beginning by drafting a first concept, based on threat analysis and a site survey. Next, we present the concept to our customer, with whom we discuss any modifications required, such as adding features that are not part of the default system.
Support in Operation
We offer support in operating the system. We train personnel, assess the long-term efficiency and optimise the system operations based on the customer’s requirements, and troubleshoot problems.
Effective drone detection helps even if there are no active countermeasures to be deployed against drones. Customers can use the capabilities of DIDIT (such as the localisation of the drone pilot) to take other measures such as suspending communication, hiding sensitive and confidential equipment, and contacting the police about the drone pilot’s position.
