The Position

Welcome to Space: We are looking for an Engineer or Scientist with experience in the wide field of Payload Data Processing and Remote Sensing!

The EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation (EPS-SG) and the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) are the future Earth Observation flagship missions of our customer EUMETSAT. The payloads of these missions apply various remote sensing methods, imagery and sounding. In your role you will support a wide range of scientific and technical activities related to the definition, implementation, maintenance and evolution of Level-1 processing facilities.

This position is mainly based on-site at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt as well as in our Head Office in Darmstadt. It is a permanent full-time position with the earliest to immediate start date.

Qualifications/Experience

  • University degree in Computer Sciences, Physics, Remote Sensing, or other related fields

Essential Skills

  • Motivation to drive the scientific exploitation of the latest Earth Observation data products;
  • At least three years of experience in the field of physical remote sensing, including involvement in processing of satellite data up to level 1 (calibrated / geo-located radiances) and/or level 2 (geophysical parameters), and satellite data monitoring;
  • Very good knowledge of scientific software development;
  • Extensive experience in at least one of the following programming languages: Fortran90/95, IDL, Python, C++;
  • Fluency in command-line use on Linux/Unix platforms;
  • Standout colleague able to establish an excellent team environment;
  • Skills in writing scientific/technical documents;
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.

Desirable Skills

  • Hands-on experience with the ESA Earth Observation CFI (EOCFI) Software
  • Familiarity with common formats, e.g. XML, netCDF or HDF;
  • Having worked with version control systems (e.g. git, SVN) for a collaborative workflow
