The Position

We are looking for a F&T generation e distribution system professional with working experience. If you have experience and familiarity with design, corrective maintenance and operations activities related to ground segment F&T related systems, we are searching for you!

This position is based at ESOC in Darmstadt. It is full-time and permanent position.

The daily activities requested, will be supporting the European Space Agency (ESA) with highly qualified services at the European Operations Control Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt. In particular, the selected candidates will run a service at ESOC where they will provide your expertise the field of F&T generation and distribution systems for all ESTRACK infrastructure

As part of this role, in close and direct collaboration with the client, the selected candidate will:

  • Support to ground station developments, i.e. support to the definition of technical specifications and statement of works, participate to procurement tender evaluation boards in the role of expert, support to design reviews as well as support to factory and site acceptance tests.
  • Support to technology development activities, i.e. support to the definition of requirements, support in preliminary prototype and bread boarding activities, support to the evaluation of achievements.
  • Support to preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance.
  • Support to operations during critical phases
  • Design of frequency and timing generation and distribution systems, caesium, rubidium and maser based frequency generation, optical and microwave (sapphire) clocks, optical (fibre) clock distribution
  • Lead activities and studies related to optical communications (e.g. detectors development for OGS, adaptive optics for Optical Deep space Antenna)
  • Support planning and coordination between different ESA entities active in the F&T domain (e.g. harmonisation activities)


  • University degree in software engineering or similar

Crucial Skills

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Coordinate and communicate work effort with organization
  • Interest in being part of an international team continuously looking to improve our capabilities

Experience (min 4 years) in:

  • Design and procurement of frequency and timing systems
  • Caesium and rubidium based frequency and timing systems (in 15m antennas)
  • Maser based frequency and timing systems (mainly in 35m antennas)
  • Optical clocks
  • Microwave (sapphire) clocks
  • Optical (fibre) clocks distribution
