The Position

Do, what you love as a Software engineer!

As part of the multi-national COSMIC (Community Operation Software Maintenance Industrial Contract) MCS team you will be supporting the maintenance of vital infrastructure components such as EDDS, EUD, DABYS, DARC, FARC, MATIS, NIS, SCOS2000 and SMF. Managing the transition to a community licensing model for these in parallel with uninterrupted support to the flying ESA missions.

As part of this role you will collaborate closely directly with the client's end users, together with the responsible technical managers to designing, develop, and maintaining efficient and reliable code in Java and/or C++. This position offers an excellent opportunity to step into the operational world and later develop dedicated enhancements for the new generation of systems as ESA transitions to an EGS-CC centric ecosystem.

You will identify bottlenecks, as well as bugs and devise solutions to these problems by assuring the functionality of the systems. You will proactively help maintaining the code quality, organization, and automatization.

Show us, what you've got as a Developer!

You have a strong proficiency in either Java or C/C++, with fair knowledge of the corresponding language specifications and with shown experience. You know how to use the standard template library and its containers. You know object orientation, and can draw and understand class diagrams in UML.

You are familiar with development tools such as debuggers, profilers, and tracing utilities. You are excellent at problem-solving and multitasking, with a logical and pragmatic demeanor.

This position is based at our Headquarter in Darmstadt. It is full-time and permanent and expected starting date will be October 2021.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Degree educated SW Engineer

Essential Skills

  • Java OR C++ programming language
  • Object oriented programming and design using UML
  • Linux command line, Source Code Control System (SVN/Git), Maven, Jenkins and Nexus
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Knowledge of one or more of EDDS, EUD, DABYS, DARC, FARC, MATIS, NIS, SCOS2000 and SMF

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience on GIMUS or related project
  • JIRA, GitLab
  • Automated testing using CppUnit/JUnit
  • JavaScript and Python experience
