The Position

Within our software solutions department a new division with focus on End-to-End Services and Integration & Validation Services for Satellite Ground segment customers will be formed. The division is created by splitting an existing division and thus has a steady client base, teams and projects upon which to build.

We are looking for someone with a track record of delivering software projects and/or IV&V (Integration, Verification and Validation) services in Space industry or comparable industry with excellent planning skills and experience in coordinating, supervising teams and interacting with the customer.

A main responsibility is to maintain a division that offers a long-term perspective for our staff and a sustainable and growing business for the company!

This position is based at our Headquarter in Darmstadt. It is full-time and permanent and expected starting date will be January 2022.

Responsibilities/Duties

As a division head, you are a member of the department management team, supporting the daily operations, and will be heard on required changes and improvements. The direct line of reporting will be to the Department Head, but you are encouraged to contribute to all parts of the organization.

Your management activities have four distinct themes

  • Strategy and Planning. You define the strategy for the division with your team, in-line with the direction of the company. The strategy is thereafter translated into a plan of specific actions to be taken, and you manage your teams’ execution of this plan. The aim is long-term sustainable growth of the business.
  • Staffing and Recruitment. You ensure adequate allocation of staff to the division projects. This includes resource planning, staff deployment, allocation of training and staff career progression planning.
  • Project Delivery. You are overall responsible for the successful delivery of the projects within your division. In frequent exchange with your head of sections and project managers, you provide mentorship and guidance, ensuring financial health, customer satisfaction and quality of delivery.
  • Budget and Cost Planning. You plan, budget and manage all costs of your division and you are in charge of the division's financial KPIs ensuring reliable divisional financial reporting and forecasts.

The division size is measured in number of staff and should be between 25 and 45. The ultimate measure of your success will be that the division will grow to a size where it will have to be split!

Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience from a similar role
  • University degree in a relevant engineering field, computer engineering, physics or equivalent practical experience.

Essential Skills

  • Network into institutional (ESA, EUMETSAT) and/or NewSpace industry
  • Satellite Ground Segment expertise
  • Experience in Delivery of Projects and Service
  • Experience of leading teams
  • Excellent planning skills
  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Outgoing and not afraid of leaving your comfort zone
  • Proven track record in long-term planning
  • Knowledge of continuous integration and delivery process
