The Position

This position is based at ESOC in Darmstadt. It is full-time and permanent position.

We are supporting the European Space Agency (ESA) with highly qualified services at the European Operations Control Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt. For a new service position within the area of Earth Observation Data Systems we are searching for a Data System Engineer (DSE) to complement our international service team!

As part of the service you will assist and deputize ESAs technical personnel in the following areas:

  • Support to the preparation of the MCS system for the CO2M mission at the level of Deputy Technical Responsible.
  • Support for Sentinel Expansion Missions MCS systems preparation
  • Ad hoc support to the preparation of the FLEX MCS.

Detailed information on the missions and the activities of ESOC can be found on;


  • University degree in a relevant engineering field, computer engineering, physics or equivalent with high grades.

Essential Skills

The ideal candidate we are looking for contributes to our service team with the following characteristics:

  • S2K based Mission Control Systems
  • Ability to work independently, openness and reliability
  • Capability to collaborate with several different areas/people in ESOC
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with all partners within ESOC and industry
  • Proficiency in English, both in speech and writing

Desirable Skills

Additional desirable skills are:

  • Solid understanding of File Based Operation
  • Solid understanding of Earth Observation Mission Control Systems
  • Understanding and familiarity with CCSDS
  • Experience in Service delivery to external organizations
  • Experience in project management and related approaches
  • Solid understanding of EGOS-CC, EGS-CC, SIM, MPS etc.
  • Solid understanding of different technological stack including but not limited to: C++, Devops, Linux, Maven, Git.
