The Position

Welcome to Space: We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer or Scientist in the field of payload data processing for Earth Observation missions.

You will be the Technical Lead and Project Manager for the development of the L0/L1/L2 Instrument Processing Facility (IPF) of the upcoming EUMETSAT CO2M (“Sentinel-7”) mission. Specifically, you will be responsible for coordinating the overall software development, IV&V activities, as well as to support its deployment on the EUMETSAT Processing Infrastructure. This role offers you an exciting mix of management and technical responsibilities.

You should have fun working in a team and being keen to make your contribution to the development of modern Earth Observation applications.

And yes, it is really cool to work on space projects!

This full-time and permanent position with an immediate starting date is based at our Headquarter in Darmstadt.

  • Project management of the CO2M IPF development: Resource planning, maintaining schedule and costs;
  • Coordination of team activities and liaise with subcontractors and the customer;
  • Technical Lead: Maintain a system-level overview, become the technical focal point, assess dependencies, harmonize interfaces;
  • Support the Validation, Testing and Integration of the CO2M IPFs into the operational processing infrastructure at EUMETSAT;


  • University degree in Computer Science, Remote Sensing, Physics, or other relevant discipline.

Essential Skills

  • Broad knowledge about Payload Data Ground Segment architectures and infrastructures;
  • Good understanding of System Engineering concepts: Requirements Engineering, Design, and IV&V;
  • Practical experience in software project management: Planning, execution and monitoring;
  • Analytical mindset and systematic problem solving approach.

Desirable Skills

  • Good practice in a higher programming language. (Python, optimally C++);
  • Feeling confident working in a Linux environment;
  • Having worked within the European space industry environment (e.g. ESA, EUMETSAT, ECMWF).
