The Position

Telespazio Germany is looking for an experienced Spacecraft Operations Engineer to support the pre-launch preparations of the Sentinel-4 mission. Sentinel-4 is a payload flying on the EUMETSAT MTG spacecraft. The launch is planned for Q4 2023.

This position is based at ESOC in Darmstadt. It is full-time and permanent and expected starting date will be 15 June 2022.

The specific activities to be supported by this service are:

  • Familiarisation with the MTG mission and the Sentinel-4 payload
  • Generation and Validation of the flight operational procedures for the Payload
  • Preparation for and execution of System Validation Tests
  • Supporting the generation of a Commissioning Phase Plan
  • The above tasks cover both the payload and payload management system
  • Supporting the development and testing of the payload utilising the MTG simulator
  • Coordination of test activities between ESOC and EUMETSAT


  • University degree or equivalent education in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Operations

Essential Skills

  • Proven expertise in FOS development of FCT related tasks (e.g. FOP preparation and validation, SVT preparation and execution), in particular in the area of the  payload.
  • As a minimum 5 years of operations preparation experience.
  • Fluency in English, both speech and writing.
  • Proven expertise in the preparation of a Commissioning phase.
  • Experience of ESA, EUM and Industry working practices.
  • Familiarity with the ESOC environment.
  • The ability to work autonomously
  • The ability to adhere to strict delivery targets

Desirable Skills

  • Experience on Earth Observation missions, specifically pre-ops preparation, LEOP and Payload commissioning.
  • Proven experience with the development cycle and testing of Operational Simulators., especially the ones based on SimSat.
  • Experience with EUMETSAT Meteosat Third Generation satellites.

Special Requirements

  • Ability to obtain clearance for handling of export control material (US and European)
  • Near-Site Service. Ability to support frequent meetings at ESOC and EUMETSAT.
